What is your name, business name, how you got into the business, hobbies, family, etc. Define what makes you.

Evan & Jentri Young. Our team name is “Evan & Jentri” & we are with Realty One Group. We got into the business internationally actually. We moved to Ambergris Caye, Belize in 2013 & were part of the number one team in the world for international real estate. We worked on a resort development on the southern part of the island, in addition to raw land development on the northern part of the island. It was an amazing experience & really broadened our perspective in not just business but also in life.

Our hobbies include being outdoors – camping, fishing, hiking, mountain biking. If we can be out in nature with our babies, we are HAPPY! We have two children: Dylan (girl) is 8 & Jax (boy) is 5. They are incredible tiny humans.

Career based questions:

When did you know you wanted to be a _______ ?

What are the most helpful resources that have helped you along the way?

What is the biggest misconception people have about your field of expertise?

Similar to other industries out there, I think there is definitely an effect from reality TV shows. There’s this picture that’s painted of a couple that one is an umbrella salesperson & one pet sits hamsters; somehow they have a $1.75 million budget. One day they just go out to look at some pretty homes & then they drink a glass of wine & then suddenly they’re living in this ah-maz-ing home. What we do is definitely not brain surgery but it’s also not easy. It’s a process & to a certain extent can be repeated. BUT the beauty is that every single transaction is completely different because every single client is completely different. This is also where some of the challenges come in.

I think it is also a huge misconception regarding how our paycheck depends on so many other people – everything from the clients themselves, to title, to home inspectors ;) to lenders, to parents, friends, & on & on. We counted it up one time & it was like 15 people.

Did you have a mentor when starting? How did you discover a mentor relationship and has that aided in success?  What's the best advice a mentor ever gave you about the industry?

YES! We have had a couple different mentors over the years.

Keys to success/tips:

Given the current market conditions, how are you advising and/or helping your clients to win?

How do you build successful client relationships?

This has been a focus of ours from the beginning & is something we continuously keep in mind. We are constantly building rapport from the initial meeting & throughout the entire transaction & even beyond. We ask a lot of questions so that we can truly understand our clients wants/needs/goals & most importantly actually listen to them. Then we do everything in our power to make that happen. We always try to put our clients first, to the extent that we have actually recommended that our clients cancel based on a super poor inspection, or market conditions, etc. <Cole example this past December> We are having success in this because our business now is based on repeat clients & referrals.

What are some key elements that you attribute to your success in this business?

Keeping up with market trends, paying attention to what is going on from a global/national perspective down to a neighborhood or even on the street level.

How do you differentiate yourself in a crowded market?

It’s definitely a crowded market! Over 90,000 licensees in AZ. Everyone can say “oh we listen” or “oh we put our clients first” but actually doing that transaction after transaction adds up. Evan’s construction experience & Jentri’s design experience is a huge benefit to us & our clients. <expand on this>

Who do you talk to when you feel stuck or unmotivated?

What are common things people struggle with in your field?

What is your morning routine?

Home Inspector Questions:

As a buyer agent, what do you like most and the least about home inspections/inspectors?

We have come across a number of home inspection companies over the years & there is a vast difference between the mediocre & very good. I think professionalism – they way the home inspector looks/speaks/presents themselves – can be very lacking in this industry. Also thoroughness. Not everything can be discovered in a home inspection but there is a huge difference in thoroughness. Also, the quality of the report. We have received some that are basically a few bullet points on a Microsoft word doc.

As a listing agent, what do you like the least about home inspections/inspectors?

For sure it comes back to quality & professionalism. We have had doors left unlocked,

What are some things that you have learned working with Home Inspectors?

Closing questions:

Can you share your top three book recommendations for the audience?

JRY:

Life/business: everything Malcom Gladwell, The Obstacle is the Way, Ego is the Enemy, Never Split the Difference, The Five Love Languages

Life/wellness: Deep, Breath, The Comfort Crisis

What are the best podcasts related to your field?

I don’t listen to a lot of RE podcasts. I love Malcom Gladwell so Revisionist History is one of my faves; Joe Rogan, Tim Ferris, Rich Roll are others I consistently listen to.
